The reason why is that for most insurances there is a precondition that you are a member of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme, and that you have a permanent residence in Norway.

Non-Norwegian citizens do not meet these criteria: They are not members of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme and they don’t have permanent residence in Norway. Therefore, neither the members nor their families will get full coverage from the members’ insurance scheme.

Below we have listed all the member insurances. The three first listed are paid by Lederne. The rest of the insurances you have to sign up for and pay yourself.

Compulsory life insurance, members – coverage for non-Norwegian citizens.
Compulsory life insurance spouses – no coverage for non-Norwegian citizens.
Compulsory family accident insurance – no coverage for non-Norwegian citizens.
Compulsory life-and disability insurance (with the right to opt out) –
Family accident insurance – no coverage for non-Norwegian citizens.
Life- and disability insurance – coverage by death but no coverage by disability.
Household insurance – no coverage for non-Norwegian citizens.
Travel insurance – no coverage for non-Norwegian citizens.

As you may see from the above, the coverage for non-Norwegian members through Ledernes’ insurance scheme is limited. We recommend our non-Norwegian members to buy insurances in their country of permanent residence to ensure that they get sufficient coverage, both for themselves and for their families.
